Writing For A Foreign Land

What should you do if you want to write for a foreign land. Ok, we all know about American land. The geography, the towns, the culture and slang. I want to write about something overseas. Where should I begin? You should really first start with the geography of the land. Is it a city, mountain, suburb or jungle. Next, what country is it placed? Now, use youtube they have everything. You can type in German cities or mountains and you can find videos showing a new land. Now its your job to imagine that land and describe it to the reader so they can get a mental image of the geography. Who are the people you are writing about? Again you can use youtube to look up the history of the country and people. Example, Japan is known for honor. You can see how these people interact with each other. That will tie back to my point of reference post. As you can see I like to use youtube for these things but there are many more resources available.
